January 2007 Dear Parents and Students: The L. M. Montgomery Heritage Fair will be held on Thursday, April 19th, 2007. Students will share their projects in their individual classrooms during Heritage Week prior to the Fair (April 11-18). The L. M. Montgomery Heritage Fair Committee would like to make you aware of the following information. 1. All grade five and six students will participate in the Heritage Week activities as part of their regular Social Studies curriculum. 2. Grade four students may participate in the L. M. Montgomery Heritage Fair but they cannot advance to the Provincial Heritage Fair. This is in accordance with Provincial Heritage Fair regulations. Grade four students should be prepared to share their projects within their own classrooms during Heritage Week. 3. Teachers will evaluate their students’ heritage projects as well as recommend that students take their projects to the L. M. Montgomery Heritage Fair. 4. The purpose of this Heritage Fair is to give students an opportunity to explore and celebrate their heritage and to share projects with the school community. 5. Students are encouraged to develop a project that is important to them. Students should try to prepare a project individually. If there is a partnership required, it is to be with one person from their own classroom, pending teacher and parent approval. 6. Students will be given time to work on their ideas in class, but will be expected to work on their project at home as well. 7. The Heritage Fair program encourages the involvement of family members in the research of their project, but it is ultimately the students' responsibility to understand and share their ideas at the Fair. 8. The projects can fit into a variety of categories. The only stipulation is that the project has a connection to Canada. There is a sample list of project topics in this booklet, however students are more than welcome, and encouraged, to use an original idea. 9. A number of projects will be selected at our fair to attend the Provincial Heritage Fair on May 3. These will be selected by a panel of judges. A sample of the judge's marking sheet is also found in this booklet. 10. Students should notify their teacher of their topic by Tuesday, March 27th.,2007. The L. M. Montgomery School Heritage Fair Committee wishes everyone a positive and enjoyable science experience.
