Letter to Parents concerning Science Fair 2012

January 2012

Dear Parents:

A Science Week for grades four, five and six students is planned for February 21 - 24. At that time, students will have an opportunity to share their science fair projects within their classrooms. Our Annual School Science Fair will be held on February 28 (storm date February  29). The L. M. Montgomery Science Fair Committee would like to make you aware of the following information:

1. Grade four, five and six students have the option of  participating in the Science Week and the Annual School Science Fair.

2. Students may prepare a project on their own, or with one other person from their classroom.

3. Students may work with adult supervision, but too much assistance may destroy the benefits for the students.

4. Projects must be displayed using a free-standing non-flammable stand. Adults may assist students in constructing the stands.

5. Students will have access to information for project topics and research through the School Library Resource Centre. Students are encouraged to use other community and library resources, and to discuss their projects with teachers, parents and other interested adults.

6. Any animals used in a project should not be brought to the science fair.

7. Bacteria or fungal growth are not permitted.

8. Judges who are invited to evaluate the projects at the Annual School Science Fair will use the same criteria that is used at the Eastern School District (March 8) and the Provincial Science Fair (April 3). (See the judging criteria in this booklet.)

The 2011/2012 L. M. Montgomery School Science Fair Committee wishes everyone a positive and enjoyable science experience.
