Home and School
Home and School is a non-profit, volunteer organization made up of parents who want to be involved in their child’s education and advocate on their child’s behalf. Curriculum content, class size, school bus safety, bullying, drugs and health education are all issues that are raised and the more members a home and school has, the stronger the voice it has. The very best combination is when parents and teachers work together to ensure that the best possible education is provided to our youth to ensure their success in education and in their career choices. M.E. Callaghan H&S is there to help educate parents through special programs, and speakers. M.E. Callaghan H&S gives you an opportunity to be acquainted with the way the school operates; it can keep you informed and up-to-date on Western School Board policies and curriculum changes. Parents would be more aware of opportunities and decisions confronting youth and how it affects their future. The example set by parents is immeasurable. You can be a supportive parent by joining M.E. Callaghan’s Home and School. .
You do not have to fundraise. You do not have to come to every meeting, but you are always welcome to attend. Your concerns and suggestions are important to the M.E. Callaghan Home and School. Your executive for the 2010-2011 year are: Deanna Keough - co-president Floyd Handrahan - co-president Susan Gaudet - treasurer Kelly Herget - secretary Dates to keep in mind: January 31st - deadline to have provincial home and school resolutions in February 13-19 - Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week February 13 - Nominate a teacher or support staff for the "Extra Mile Award" Issues currently looking into: Potential program for summer literacy/tutoring at the Intermediate level Funding/Grants for a new ballfield and updated tennis court and track and field area The results from PISA survey - PEI ranked the lowest of all provinces after results on numeracy and literacy for grade 9 students.
