J.C Introduction I chose this topic because I like farm environment and I like working around the barn. The reason I chose this topic is that I like to farm and I think farm invironment is really cool. Past I learned about the history of my topic by asking somebody that is older than I am. I picked my father because he was in farmingwhenever he was my age. He has a farm now he has 10 cows on his farm and I help him feed them in the morning. I learned about the history of my topic that cows are different animals than other animals. I learned that they eat different kinds of food then other animals. They eat food like grain, hay, and patato's and they also drink water. They are nice animal's they are very gentle. I learned that they can also hurt somebody by kicking the person. I learned that you got to take your time around cows because you get them hyper if you run or try to catch them they will get hypered up. If you take your time around them they won't get all hypered up. I also learned that their hay can be round baled or square baled. I also learned that you can put the cows out in the pasture in the summer and they will eat the grass and you can put out a round bale of hay to them every week. I also learned that while they are in the pasture they grow alot than they will in the but they also can grow in the barn as well. When they are in the barnyou got to clean them out once in awhileand put some more straw down for them. Straw keeps them warm and dry in the winter. In the 1800's farming was the main occupation of the people who settled in the area. Most farmers had farm animals like beef cattle, dairy cattle, sheep, pigs, horses, geese, ducks, and hens. The people had orchards and they also grew vegetable gardens. They used mussel mud for their fertilizer. Their farm produce at one time in life was hauled by horse and sleigh and the people were wrap in buffalo robes in the winter time. Prince Edward Island has really good soil and good climent for growing patato's. Some young people leave farms to look for lother careers. Present What I know about farming today is that they have newer tractors, and they got newer machinery. The farmers have newer stuff now that they didn't have back then. The orchards have all disappeared on todays farm's. Work horses has been replaced by tractors. Today they use commercial fertilizer. Small farms from the 1970's doubled in size from 15-20 acres to 180-400 acres. Conclusion I learned that you got to be gentle around farm animals like cows, pigs, chickens, etc. You got to feed the farm animals everyday and you also got to water them everyday as well. My sources is that I interviewed my father. |
