Our Grade 1, 1/2 and 2 classes went to Cackleberry Farms, where they were greeted by the Marsdens. They were divided into three groups. One group went to pick apples, while another group went to visit the horses and other things in the fields. The third group learned how apples were graded, packaged into five pound bags, ready for the store. Then the groups rotated. After the classes got together before getting back on the class, each class got to choose a pumpkin for their classroom, and a big basket of apples. When we got back to the school, the Grade ones viewed the apples, using all our senses. Then we took the peelings off the apple, and we saw how the apple changed in appearance. Then we had some of our parent volunteers make applesauce for sharing. We had two different kinds - regular and cinnamon. Later on in the week, one of the parents came in with apple muffins and apple crisp. We loved tasting those changes to the apples!
