Introduction:

Are there any wildlife management centers in my community?

Were there restrictions on how many birds that you could shoot on a day?

Past

I learned that there isn't any protective wildlife places in my community because my community isn't that big so there isn't any. Hunting wild life went year round back then because there wasn't any rules of how many you could shoot or take. There where more birds then there is now because back then the wildlife had more time to populate and now people just hunt wildlife for fun. When the Acadians first settled here (Prince Edward Island) they mostly lived of there farm and the shellfish and wildlife when they first came. The fish industry was really big back then but slowly went down after people went from wildlife to fish. The Acadians were forced to leave different provinces around Canada then the finally came to Prince Edward Island and settled here. The Acadians wouldn't go hungry because the wildlife was big and there wasn't many people hunting so they had lot's of food. They used wildlife for lots of different reasons, they used many kinds of birds for there meat and feathers because they'd take the feathers and make pillows and they would eat the meat or store it for the winter. They also used birds for other foods like wild berries. They would let them eat the berries and if they didn't get sick eating them then they were safe to eat. In 1884 the Acadians adopted the Acadian flag and most Acadians had to rent land from landlords because they didn't have the money to by the land so they used wildlife as a main food source. When they first came to P.E.I the Acadians were looked after by the Mi'kmaq for centuries and they lived off of a lot of wildlife.

Present

I learned that they use the same guns as they did when dewis hunted just these guns are more fancy. Before you didn't pay a lot of money to rent a field but now you can pay up to $3.000 dollars. In the fall all the geese and ducks that flew north come back for as few months again then hunting is open like every other year. Today when you hunt it's a lot easier probably then when it was back then because you have came and the guns have heavier shells. There is much better blinds then there was back then, they dig blinds right in the ground now. They have decoys to hunt with now and a lot of people use dogs to retrieve them. They also use a pair of water proof pants called waiders so you can use them to go in the water without getting wet.

Conclusion

My conclusion is that Acadians and many people around the world still use wildlife for food and store it all winter. The water foul population goes down a bit every year because there is more people hunting them every year. There is now resources that help wildlife like Ducks Unlimited Inc. They provide sanctuaries for wildlife.
