Wind Vanes

Our grade 5 class made wine vanes. We split into groups and each group had a "Captain.” The captain was in charge of everything and got to hold the wind vanes outside. The other part of the class who wasn’t a captain got to watch or hold a compass. It was a lot of fun when we were making them.

When we made our wind vanes we used five different parts. The five different parts were: a pencil with an eraser, a pin, a piece of straw, it was cut very small. We also used a piece of cardboard cut in a triangle, and a wooden bead with a hollow center.
It didn’t take long to make them all you had to do was this; put the the bead on the pin and then put the cut straw on the pin then push the pin into the eraser of the pencil then tape the cut straw to the piece of cardboard that’s cut in a triangle, and then there you’re done.
When we went outside to test them they didn’t quite work perfectly. Daniel went on the internet to check what way the wind was blowing and it showed us that some of the wind vanes were right.

Here's some pictures taken with a digital camera of our work.
