This project demonstrates the diversity of our Island, and our world. It has exposed our students to the wealth of cultures and experiences that we have access to. So many of our youth are children of families that are multi-generational Islanders. This stability is great, but has its downfalls. Many Island students must rely on the school system for exposure to the broader world around them. Projects such as this one enable them to appreciate the diversity of our more global society, while celebrating what it means to be themselves, as Islanders and Canadians.

Our initial objectives included exploration of the peoples of our world, both locally, nationally and in a broader sense. The three key components are Proud Canadians, Global Community and Human Mosaic. The Global Community was explored through a variety of means, by our grades 3,5 and 7 classes. With the Proud Canadians component, various students in Grades 8 and 9 worked on several aspects of this project, whether slideshows or webpages, under the jurisdiction of several Miscouche teachers. Our grade 8's began looking at Canadian heroes, starting with Fathers of Confederation. With Human Mosaic, our Grade 1/2's explored Diversity in depth, while Grade 8/9's researched specific cultural groups that form the backbone of Island people. All of these grade 8 and 9 projects included interviews with local seniors, as alternate sources of information.
