As part of the Farmer Helping Farmers Project, our school was twinned with a school in Kenya, Africa. This group has been working for twenty -five years to help improve their farming methods and to help give them better access to clean water, as well as help improve their schools.

As our partner school does not have reliable access to the Internet, we created letters using a word processor, and sent them by traditional mail to Kenya last year. They in turn sent us a few postcards this fall. This year's grade 7 class responded with further letters created using AppleWorks. It is a great way to learn about a part of the world that is so different from ours, while sharing information about our corner of the world.

Our next step included sending them a few supplies, such as various types of balls for their Physical Education program, pencils, erasers, etc.. Recently we sent postcards from the Island to the school via two education sent from UPEI who are doing their practicum in Kenya. Those UPEI students came to our classroom to talk to us before they went to Kenya.

We are having a Penny Parade to raise money for Gathukimundi Primary School, as this school has no electricity, has a dirt floor, few desks and few supplies. Approximately $500 Canadian will hire  a teacher for a year for the school in Kenya.
