Introduction

My topic is Famous Islanders. I chose this topic because I wanted to learn about some of the famous islanders that lived in the past. I want to know the names of some famous islanders. I would also like to know if there is any famous athletes or musicians that are from the island.

Past

There were a few famous islanders in the past. The person that I interviewed talked about a few famous islanders that he knew about when he was younger. He talked a lot about Stompin' Tom Connors. His mother really liked Stompin' Tom also. He also mentioned Eddie Arsenault, an exceptional fiddler. He also said that he had a painting done by Maurice Bernard hanging in his living room. Maurice Bernard is a talented, well known artist. After talking to Clifford, I realized that famous islanders don't have to be known world wide to be famous. He talked about a young man that was a very good hockey player and he was known throughout the island. But he wasn't really known off island. Clifford also said that when he was going to school, they were still talking about Lucy Maud Montgomery and her phenomenal book, Anne of Green Gables, even though she wrote the book 40 years before he was in school.

Present

When you stop and think about it, there are more famous islanders today then there was in the past. Islanders seem to excel in athletics. Suzanne Gaudet, and Lori Kane are only a few examples of some famous athletes. Musicians are another category that islanders do very well in. Barachois is recognized throughout North America, and Richard Wood and Natalie MacMaster are known throughout the maritimes.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I feel that I've learned a lot about famous islanders. I didn't learn a lot about people from the far past, but more about people from today. There was a lot of information on athletes and musicians. I especially enjoyed the work that we did in the computer lab. The interview was kind of boring and not that much fun, but working with the internet and on the computer was very fun.
