This project teaches students that pride starts at home. Intermediate students explored famous people locally, regionally and nationally. They also looked at the past versus the present, for local innovators, musicians, famous Islanders, as well as the Fathers of Confederation, who met on our Island soil so many years ago.

Grade 8 students created group slideshows about each of the member regions involved in Confederation initially, whereby they shared their respective regions pros and cons for joining Confederation. Those creating slideshows utilized word processing, graphics creation, graphics editing, Internet searches, usage of clipart, Knowledge Forum collaborative database, Inspiration brainstorming, and slideshow creation. They were presented to the class, as a unique way to learn about and share new learning about a very important
aspect of our Island's/ country's history.

In addition, Grade 9 Technology Arts students used a multitude of technology skills in creating webpages about Famous Islanders and Island innovators. These were shared within their respective classes, and then used as a resource for other classes in the school and beyond. In order to complete these tasks, students integrated technology such as Knowledge Forum, Inspiration, PaintShop Pro, AppleWorks, Internet Explorer and FrontPage Express to create their unique products. All of these skills are transferable to many other aspects of their learning. For those exploring local famous people, students are learning to use digital cameras and scanners. In all instances, students are learning to work collaboratively in small groups, as they learn the various technology components.

Students in Grades 6 and 7 explored various Aboriginal groups in Canada, form coast to coast to coast. They have found some websites  useful enough to share with others.
