Schools Attending Montague Memorial Prior to 1972

The school was like one big family. The older pupils, likely sisters and brothers, helped to care for and assist the younger ones with their work. The younger pupils often learned alot just by listening while the teacher taught a lesson to the older grades and sometimes would be ahead of their age in grades. The teacher had to be the teacher, mother, nurse, counsellor, playmate and janitor.  Teachers had to be very well prepared and spent hours before and after school correcting papers and preparing for the next day's lessons.
