The Music Program
Students have music every second day for
25 - 30 minutes. During this time students develop their skills
in singing, rhythm reading, music listening, and mallet instrument
playing. A limited amount of theory work is also achieved in this
time.
As with all elementary schools across PEI, Montague Consolidated
uses the Share the Music series to deliver the provincial
music curriculum.
The Christmas and Spring concerts offer a small sample of the
music learning that takes place at the school. The Christmas concert
focuses on grades 1 - 3, while the Spring concert focuses on grades
4 -6.
Choir
The school choir includes students from
grades 3 - 6. Rehearsals happen once per cycle (normally on Day
2) during 1st recess.
The choir performs in many assemblies and
concerts throughout the year. It has even recorded music for the
Children's Wish Foundation.
Percussion Club
Percussion club is exlusive to grade 6.
It meets once per cycle and allows students more time to use the
school's percussion instruments. Various rhythms / drum beats
are performed as well as different ways to play percussion instruments.
Other
Recess time is also used to practice for
various upcoming events such as concerts.
