Peacekeeping and Canada

The League Of Nations was the first attempt to create a global organization to halt aggression before it led to war. Although the idea was sound the practical business of making it work wasn't!

Although the events of September the eleventh were devastating for the citizens of the United States they pale in comparison to the massive devastation of our world wars. This event puts global conflict in perspective for the generations which did not experience it.

Lester Pearson's vision and determination not only solved the Suez Crisis but gave the world a new way of thinking about soldiers - as peacekeepers. His imagination would change the face of our world for the better!

Canada has participated in more peacekeeping missions than any other country in the world. It seems fitting that Canadian Peacekeepers are perpetuating the legacy left by Prime Minister Pearson.
