JOB OF THE DAY
- Arborist
People who care for trees professionally are called arborists. Their job involves planting, pruning, trimming, and generally taking care of trees and shrubs. They also fertilize them and watch for harmful insects and diseases.
Earnings
- Wages for arborists generally range from about $12 to $25 an hour, depending on experience, education, employer, and job responsibilities. Those who have university or college education in the field earn more than those who do not. An arborist with several years of experience can earn around $30 an hour.
Education
- In most provinces arborists are not required to have formal qualifications. However, post-secondary courses in horticulture or arboriculture offer good basic training.
