GENERAL INFORMATION:
Universities and colleges typically offer entrance scholarships to students entering their first year. These awards are intended to attract top calibre students. Some universities offer a specific amount for a specific average, i.e., $1000 for an average in the 80's and $2000 for an average in the 90's. For each university it is advisable to check in the appropriate university calendar. Entrance scholarships are offered in the basis of high school marks, rank in class and number of advanced courses taken.
Some universities require a special application form for scholarships. Many have their scholarship application built into the general application form. Students wishing to be considered for entrance scholarships should have their applications in by mid February in many cases. It is recommended that students consult the particular university calendar regarding application and scholarship deadlines. There is not one specific date for all universities.
Some scholarships and prizes are awarded during graduation and are selected by the faculty. No specific applications are required for these.
This list is meant to be a guide for students seeking information on scholarships and bursaries. It is by no means complete and because application criteria for awards may be changed from time to time, students are advised to verify info from the award providers themselves. Students are encouraged to check the local newspapers, the internet, and any other source of information on scholarships. Students must be continually checking the daily announcements and the grade 12 bulletin board outside student services for the most up to date information and deadlines.
