Bears
For the last fifteen years, the grade 1 students at Mount Stewart Consolidated have been doing a bear theme. In this theme, we learn a lot of about bears by downloading information from various websites on the internet and resource books. An invitation is sent home asking the children to bring in their teddy bears. The students learned a lot of bear poems, songs and chants along with reading a lot of bear books, matching and art activities throughout the theme. One of the highlights of this theme is when the students get to bring the "Class" bear home for the night, along with a suitcase of clothes to dress the bear. A big bear "Celebration" is held at the closing of the theme in which all the students invite their parents and grandparents to their concert. All their talents are brought out as they incorporate all the knowledge they've learned through music, poems, chants, action poems etc. A large "bear" cake with each child's name on the cake, as well as "Gummy Bear" treats, and "Bear Paws" cookies and of course their "Bear" certificates, bring this wonderful concert to a close. We hope you enjoy our bear theme! We had a "B-E-A-R-Y" good class who really enjoyed our theme!!
