Mama's Going to Buy You a Mockingbird

The students in Grade 5/6 recently completed Jean Little’s novel Mama’s Going to Buy You a Mockingbird. The novel follows the Talbot family and their struggle to come to terms with the changes within the family after Adrian Talbot, the father, dies of cancer.

Throughout the novel, many acts of kindness took place. As a Language Arts activity the students, in groups, brainstormed together to find as many examples of acts of kindness in the novel.

Following the brainstorming activity, they were to choose one of these examples, illustrate it, and then describe their illustration. The pictures and text were then scanned and students were taught how to use the scanner.
