2009-2010 Mt. Stewart Consolidated Staff and Students Home & School / School Council Parents and teachers are undoubtedly the student's most important agents in the process of growing up and it is extremely important that they work together. The value of working together is very obvious here in Mount Stewart. In 1993 a new School Act was approved. The Act provided for the establishment of School Councils. The operation of school councils is governed by Sections 66 and 69 of the School Act and it provides parents with an opportunity to establish a school council. The role of the council is primarily to provide advice to the principal on a number of school related matters. The council must consist of the following: a) a minimum of 3 parents, b) one or more teachers, c) principal/vice-principal, d) students (optional). Terms of office are for one year with elections held at the first meeting of the school year. Schools exist in order to provide educational opportunities for students. The primary focus of schools is the improvement of learning opportunities and the protection of the interests of all students. A Home and School Association has existed in Mount Stewart since 1975 and has accomplished and contributed to many activities within the school. Much equipment has been purchased and many of the programs have benefited from direct association with the school. Each executive unit worked hard to see that things ran smoothly. Presidents over the past years include.
We encourage your support in order that we may be able to continue to work closely with the principal and staff in the pursuit of better educational opportunities for our children. Last Updated: September 2009 |
