DONNA CAMPBELL OF BLOOMFIELD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
RECEIVES HOME AND SCHOOL FEDERATION BUS DRIVER AWARD
BLOOMFIELD, PE, --- October 17, 2007 ---------On October 17, 2007, the Prince Edward Island Home and School Federation presented a Bus Driver Award to Donna Campbell, bus driver for Bloomfield Elementary School. The award honours a bus driver in the Prince Edward Island school system for outstanding service in keeping children safe as they travel to and from school each day – driving capably and professionally, teaching students about safety, managing behaviour, and caring for the well-being of every child, every day.
Donna Campbell is very much in tune with the children who ride on her bus. Each day she greets the children with a smile on her face and knows each of their names. She keeps a list of all the children's birthdays and gives them a card and gift on their special day. Donna's bus is child-friendly!! Parents and teachers at Bloomfield are thrilled and pleased that someone is willing to go that extra mile for the children.
During the school year bus drivers take students through a bus evacuation procedure. Donna always includes the kindergarten classes as she feels it is very important for children of all ages to be prepared for an accident. "Donna goes above and beyond her call of duty.", says Bloomfield School’s kindergarten teacher. "She is great! Wonderful with children!"
"Bus drivers are the first school employees our children see each day, and the last at the end of the day. Many children spend hours every week on the bus, and the quality of that experience makes a big difference to their lives," says Wendy MacDonald, President, PEI Home and School Federation. "We are delighted to recognize Donna Campbell as our School Bus Driver of the Year in the Western School Board region."
