Successful school
library programs depend on a collaborative working relationship between the
teacher-librarian and the school administrator. Together they work to
establish a plan for the school library and nurture a collaborative school
culture in which students and teachers use resource-based learning for
developing information literacy. The PEITLA recognizes the role of the
administrator by including them in all our professional development
activities, as well as providing the following specialized services:
The Administrator of
the Year Award
- This award was established to recognize a PEI administrator who has
helped develop school library programs in the province. The award is given
annually to an administrator who best represents the goals of integrated
school library programs and the role of the teacher-librarian.
School Libraries for Lifelong Learning: A Handbook for
Administrators
- This handbook was developed by teacher-librarians working in the UPEI
Diploma in School Librarianship Program. It gives the school-based
administrator a set of practical tools for developing the school library
program in the school. It is an interactive website where administrators can
download or print copies of useful documents for evaluating the school
library program and developing a plan of action for future development of
the program. It's a timely and practical web-based resource for
administrators.
