Also thanks to Jim Mills for volunteering to paint library chairs and Madge Mossberg for helping pack up library books. Thanks to all staff who donated their time to paint shelves on weekends, evenings and during free time.

We will be scheduling a time for classes to visit the Indigo bookstore to purchase books for the library and classrooms. We will have this coincide with an official re-opening of the library.

Home and School: The PEI Home and School Federation’s on-line "Parent Engagement Survey" is now live on their website at www.edu.pe.ca/peihsf. The PEIHSF invites all parents of school aged children to fill out a survey. Whether you are a birth parent, a parent by adoption or a step parent, they want to hear from you. EACH parent’s experience is unique, so each parent can complete this survey – please do not answer as a family.

At the end of the survey, participants will have an opportunity to enter your name in a special prize draw. Weekly draws for $50 gift certificates begin October 15 at noon – so the earlier you complete the survey the more chances you have to win! The computer lab will be open on the movie night from 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm for any one who would like to complete the survey.

The PEIHSF works hard on your behalf representing parents from across PEI to government, teachers, administrators and the public. We all want our children to receive the best possible education. As parents we want to be involved in their education in meaningful ways. We need to hear parent opinions to ensure that your views are included.

The Final Survey Report will be posted on the website. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to phone the provincial office at 620-3186.

Healthy Eating Tips from the PEI Healthy Eating Alliance for November 2008

Kick Start your Day with Breakfast!

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Kids need a good breakfast to help them concentrate and to make the most of eir learning experiences in school. Breakfast prepares your body for the rest of the day. Food is your body’s fuel and it needs a full tank to make it through the day!

Try to include 3 of the 4 food groups at breakfast. Including foods such as whole grain breads, milk, cheese, eggs, fruit, oatmeal, and whole grain cereals at breakfast will keep stomachs full until break time.

The number one reason people skip breakfast is because they do not have time to eat. Plan breakfast the night before and get out some of the products you will need to help speed up the process. Some people skip breakfast because they are not hungry. In this case, try tempting them with a healthy breakfast bar or homemade breakfast muffin and a glass of 100% juice or milk.

These healthy muffins can be a quick breakfast and are a good source of fiber which keeps us feeling fuller longer.

Banana Applesauce Muffins

2 Cups Whole wheat flour

1 Tbsp Baking powder

1 tsp Baking soda

2 Cup Granulated sugar

3 Cup Vegetable oil

2. In a medium bowl, combine bananas, egg, applesauce, sugar, and oil. Stir into flour mixture until just combined.

3. Divide batter evenly among prepared muffin cups

4. Bake at 400 F for 15-20 minutes or until tops are firm to touch and a tester in the center of a muffin comes out clean. Let cool in tin for 10 minutes then remove to a wire rack to cool completely.
