Kennie Mac Williams is the owner/operator of Kennie Mac William’s Seafoods Ltd. in Websters Corner, P.E.I. He buys oysters, clams, and quahogs from local fishers. He then processes them and ships them all across Canada and along the Eastern Sea Board, off the USA. He bought the business in 1980, when he was 34. It is his first business. He decided to buy the business after he had worked for 10 years with the government growing oysters. He knew the idea for the business would work, because the industry has been going on P.E.I. for many years. His advice for anyone trying to generate an idea and make it successful is to be as objective as possible about your plan and to try and anticipate the idea’s weaknesses. Kennie says that if your friends rate the idea a ten out of ten, then you rate it a five. Kennie Mac William’s Seafoods Ltd. is a sole proprietorship. He buys his seafood locally. When he looks back he feels that skills, attitude, and knowledge are all equally important for an entrepreneur. His advice to a young entrepreneur is don’t be over ambitious, keep a close grasp on your businesses activities, and don’t do anything you’re not capable of.
