Lorne McKenna, owner of
Bunbury Dental Center, has been in the business world since he can
remember. Working for his family business, Lorne got a taste of what
running a business was like, and wanted to try it out for himself. Through
the support of his family and friends, Lorne got a loan from the bank, and
his dreams of being an entrepreneur came true. Never really sure whether
his business would be a success, he realized that having realistic goals
would help him to succeed. He made a plan and followed through with it,
his only fears being the happiness of his patients and the revenue being
there. Lorne did large amounts of research along the lines of where to
locate, such as research of population and word of mouth regarding
competition and how well they were doing. Growth came easily to the small
business, almost too much. The staff numbers were small, but happy. Lorne
admits that he has met his goals, and is happy with the business that he
now runs. Being a sole proprietor from the beginning was the best idea for
Lorne as he was able to control his own time and avoid conflict. Doing his
own work led Lorne to break-even in less then one year, though he admits
to working a lot. As of today the only things that Lorne would change is
the possibility of joining another practice.
