What's in a Name?

I'm a big fan of projects which require a student to think about what they're going to draw before they ever touch pencil to paper. In order to get students thinking about meaning, and really get them to exercise their creativity, I've come up with this project for their latest contribution to the classes website.

Each student is required to come up with a "title" for a piece of art. Something a little abstract, nothing to obvious like, "Bowl of Fruit". Each title was then placed in a jar, shaken up, and drawn by the students, so that they each work from a title someone else developed. The titles for each piece appear at the side of this page. On each page I will also ask each artist to explain their interpretation of the title they drew.

This page has been designed for use with the Charlottetown Rural High School Art Classes. If you encounter any problems with the website, please feel free to contact Mr. Richard Haines at hainesr@chtownrural.edu.pe.ca
