David Bowie’s Adventures in Math It was a day like any other day in Mrs. McQuaid’s Math 521A Math class. People were talking, David was busy complimenting Mrs. McQuaid on something, and like usual, Jordan was daydreaming about her not only gorgeous but multitalented fiancé DAVID BOWIE! Who happened to be picking her up that day after class. On this particular day, David Bowie had come a little too early to pick up Jordan. Rather bored, he listened whistled quietly out side the Math class. That day Mrs. McQuaid was teaching how to make a related function and as he listened intently he learned all the steps. 1- replace "0" with "y" to create the related function Like this: 0 = x2 + 3x y = x2 + 3x 2- Take the middle term and divide it by 2 then square it y = (x2 + 3x + 9/4) -94 3- Complete the square to find the vertex y = ( x +3/2)2 - 9/4 4- Then you set up a table of values with at least 3 points on either side of the vertex
5- You then graph these numbers to find out if its real, and equal or no real roots. David stood there amazed, forgetting all about Jordan, as he looked through the math door window. He was astounded by not only Mrs. McQuaid’s great beauty but because he had never seen anyone explain math... in quite that way... the way she held the chalk, and explained each step.. He couldn’t control himself as he burst through the door proclaiming his feelings for Mrs. McQuaid. He took her chalk covered hand, looked deep in to her eyes and told her that not only was she the most brilliant teacher at Charlottetown Rural but also the best looking! The rest was history! (Whoever knew Mrs. McQuaid was a huge Bowie fan?!). Class was let out 20 minutes early and Mrs. McQuaid and David Bowie (obviously) had fallen madly in love!
