Elvey Saves Santa! With Math.

It was the morning of Christmas eve, and Santa was in his room busy getting ready for his big night. When Elvey the clumsy elf came in to help Santa with his coat and special clothes.

"Can I get you anything Santa?" asked Elvey.

"Well actually Elvey, I would love a hot chocolate with extra sugar, if that’s not too much trouble."replied Santa.

"Oh no Santa, no trouble, at all" says Elvey with enthusiasm.

So Elvey rushed to the kitchen to boil some water. The elves have a special hot chocolate up at the north pole that they have worked on for centuries to be just right.

After Elvey got the water boiled he put in the special mixture and te he remembered that Santa wanted extra sugar so he scrambled around the kitchen frantically looking for the sugar in his sleigh so he went there and found a red bag that said on it "only use in extreme situations" and Elvey looked inside and the contents were white and crystally just like sugar. He decided to put some in the hot chocolate because he figured that this must be an Extreme situation. Elvey ran back to Santa’s room with the mug of hot chocolate trying unsuccessfully no to spill any on the way.

"I’m sorry about the wait Santa! Couldn’t find the sugar so I had to take some from your sleigh"

"Oh that’s ok Elvey there was no rush!" Santa takes a sip of his hot chocolate "this tastes different, but I really like it!"

"Thank you Santa! I’ve been working on it forever, but with the finishing touches on the presents. Bye!"

"Bye, Elvey" says Santa.

What a silly elf thinks Santa to himself, and sits down on his bed to look out of the falling snow and drinks his hot chocolate, suddenly Santa gets very tired and he’s having trouble keeping his eyes open, though Santa tries really hard not to fall asleep, but he does.

Next thing he knows Elvey comes running up to Santa’s room yelling "Santa! Santa! Your late! Get up! Get up!

"I’m up, I’m up Elvey now what were you saying?" asked Santa.

"Your late Santa you fell asleep it is 8 o’clock. You have to get going quick, you have to leave in 5 minutes if you want to be done before the children wake up!"

"Oh dear! I must have been something late. Elvey, what did you put in my hot chocolate?" asked Santa.

"Just the normal mixture and i couldn’t find any sugar so I went to your sleigh and I found a real bag that said "only use in extreme situations" and i thought Oh! This is an extreme situation!"

"Oh dear Elvey, you put sleeping powder in my hot chocolate instead of sugar! When it says, use in extreme situations it’s to give to dogs who wont stop barking at me so I don’t wake up the children in the house!" says Santa. "No matter I’m up now get my things I’ll be down in two seconds."

Now Elvey felt really bad and wanted to help make up for his mistake so he started thinking what could he do? What could he do? Then he remembered learning about networks in grade 11 and remembered that if you make a digraph you could go though something faster then if you didn’t have a plan, then he remembered, if he wanted Santa to end up at the same place as he started all the vertices had to be equal, so he decided to make a digraph for Santa that looked like this:

After Elvey was done of it he ran to Santa and gave it to him.

"I’m really sorry Santa about the hot chocolate, and i feel really bad but i thought maybe this would make it up to you, it’s a digraph network to all the continents and countries in the world. Just follow the arrows and the directions I wrote underneath!" explained Elvey.

Thank you Elvey and forgive you, it was an honest mistake. This di-graph network of the world will really help me gain some time I lost. I really appreciate it!" says Santa hopefully.

"Not a problem, but you must be off children are depending on you!" says Elvey.

Elvey save the night, Santa got home on hour earlier then usual and Elvey was the talk of the north pole for long time.
