Peeky and Musical Math

By: Julia

Peeky was a dodo who lived in dirt and ate bugs everyday.
But unlike most dodos Peeky hated math in every way.

Now Peeky was a musician, you see.
"I don’t have to use Math," always said he.

But Peeky was wrong as the radical fairy would tell
So she visited Peeky and saw him in Slopingly Fell.

So as Peeky made his way to the agency, Double DoDo
He heard such a voice he stopped and said "oh"

"That’s the prettiest voice I have ever heard.
I’ll stop and go follow," said the fat little bird.

So away on an adventure Peeky went
But soon was lost and his mind was all bent.

Then all of a sudden the fairy appears
And the prettiest voice met with his ears.

"How do you do, Peeky the Dodo?
I want you to know about Math, so here we go.

Away the two flied to a place far away.
Peeky was scared, but he wouldn’t say.

Then they appeared in a room somewhere
With musical instruments there

"How in the world can you find Math here?
This is all Music as it appears."

"But math is everywhere," Radical Fairy explained.
"Here let me show you," and it began.

So the fairy began counting in the time of 4/4
"One, two, three, four, one..there is plenty more."

"As you see," the Radical Fairy said
" You need numbers to count music inside of your head"

"Or how ‘bout the beat a note or two gets?
A quarter is one, an 1/40 is it’s tenth."

Peeky was beginning to understand
But he wasn’t convinced, so the faery began..

"Now pick up this instrument and put your finger on a string.
See how it changes. Isn’t that quite a thing?"

"A mathematician named Pythagoras figured it out.
That you can make a scale using math, with no doubt."

And so finally Peeky began to appreciate Mathy things
Because without it how could he sing?

So Peeky thanked the Good Faery and said goodbye
The last I’ve heard of him was on the radio singing "How I use pie"

So as you see Music is in Math
Don’t forget it or meet the Radical Faerie’s wrath.
