Once upon a time in Mathland there was a little fraction named Beast. Beast had lots of friends in Mathland. There was Liza (the number one), Henryetta (the number two), and Ed (the number three). He also had friends all the way through 10, but the first three were his favourite.

Beast was shy though because he was only ½. All the other numbers were so much bigger, he wasn’t even a whole. This made Beast so sad sometimes he wanted to run away to find other friends like himself.

One day after a particularly horrible day, Beast was walking down the street and ran right into the number seven! Everyone knows this is bad because seven ate nine! But, luckily for 9, 10 came across them and saved him.. He should be out of the hospital in 6-8 weeks. Beast knew seven was bad news so he tried to apologize but it was no use. 7 yelled and screamed until Beast ran home crying.

When Beast got home, he packed up his things and set out to find another fraction like himself. He left a note for Liza, Henryetta and Ed so they would know where he was.

After he was about a mile out of town he saw another fraction! It was another ½! Her name was Jill. Jill and Beast returned to Beast’s town. Beast took Jill to school with him the next day to introduce her to his friends. They were all standing around until 5 noticed that if Jill stood on her head and they divided ½ ÷ ½ it became ½ x 2/1 which made 2/2 which was equal to one! Beast and Jill were finally whole numbers!

The End.
