How the Grinch Stole the Variable (x)

It was Christmas Eve in Who-Ville and Cindy and Laura Lou-Who were settling down after their big dinner. They started looking at all their presents; there were five, big presents in total. They couldn’t wait for the morning to see what they got. Because they didn’t know what were in the presents they decided to give them each a letter, and in the morning, match up the letter with the real present! The letters were t, u, v, w, and x.

But while the Who’s were sleeping the mean, old Grinch came by and stole the (x) present!

In the morning, Cindy and Laura-Lou Who discovered that the (x) present was missing. "What are we going to do ?" asked Cindy, "How are we ever going to know what was in that present?"

"That’s easy! We just make to make it an equation!, plug in what we got for t, u, v, and w and then solve for x!" Said Laura.

So that’s what they did. They made the equation t+u+v+w+x=Christmas, and plugged in their presents (except the missing variable):

(clothes)+(shoes)+(doll)+(watch)+x=Christmas

So x = television!(this is according to the rules of Who-ville).

"So the missing present that the Grinch Stole is the television!" said Cindy-Lou.

"Well Cindy," said Laura-Lou Who, "I guess he just wanted to see himself on tv.
