The Math Adventure of Hobo Joe

This is a story about a hobo named Joe....Hobo Joe as it were. This particular hobo was rather wealthy....as far as hobos go. He had a box to himself, a shopping cart and he even had a lucky measuring tape.

One day, after collecting a rather formidable haul of tin cans, Hobo Joe returned to find his fine box ravaged by vandals, but being a successful hobo he was determined to find himself a new and even better box.

Hobo Joe had gone all the way to grade 4 and so he was well educated. Using his lucky measuring tape and his highly honed math skills he would not only find a better box to live in but a perfect box!

Knowing all about volume he used the length by width by height formula to find out the dimensions he would need for his new house.

First he measured the width of his dead end ally. It measured one meter in width. Just great for a slim hobo like himself.

Being spoiled by his hobo riches he also enjoyed sleeping while laying down. He measured his height to two meters ( give or take a few centimeters ). This would be the length of his box.

Last but not least he decided that the box would need to be one meter in height. After all a box just is not a box if you can not sit up in it!

Two meters cubed is what his box would need to be so he set out in search of his new one room house.

It was behind Future Shop that he found the perfect box. It was a Maytag refrigerator box.

Dragging his palace home, Hobo Joe felt proud of his grade 4 math skills and with a kiss he put his lucky measuring tape away until yet another mathematically enthrilling day.
