IB Curriculum
The IBO has been in operation for over 30 years, and the Diploma Programme is highly regarded at universities worldwide. This comprehensive program emphasizes academic excellence as well as personal development in areas such as philosophy and community service. The goals of the IB Programme reach beyond academic preparation. The IB Programme prides itself on helping to develop students who are critical thinkers, tolerant, caring, and internationally-minded.
IB Diploma Requirements

Each student registered in the two year IB Diploma Programme must complete six courses from the following knowledge areas:

  • Group 1 Language A (English) – literature courses in the student’s first language

  • Group 2 Language B (Second language) – a second language such as French or Spanish

  • Group 3 Individuals and Societies – subjects such as history, geography or economics

  • Group 4 Experimental Sciences – subjects such as biology, chemistry or physics

  • Group 5 Mathematics and Computer Science

  • Group 6 Arts / IB Free Elective – subjects such as visual arts, music and theatre arts

In addition to the aforementioned courses, students must complete an extended essay, a Theory of Knowledge (TOK) course, and participate in a program of Creativity, Action, Service (CAS).  For more information on these components, click here.

Students choose one course from each of the six groups during both years of the Diploma Program. They will take three courses at the Standard Level (150 teaching hours) and three at the Higher Level (240 hours); this provides students with the opportunity for more in-depth study into each student’s strongest subjects while providing a broad base of knowledge.
