in the Library
Non-fiction-
The main collection is in the stacks. It is
organized according to the Dewey Decimal System. To locate a book on the
shelves look at the call number on the spine of the book.
Fiction-
Fiction contains novels and stories and is organized using
the first three letters of the author's last name.
Reference Section-
Includes dictionaries, encyclopedias, atlases,
almanacs, indexes, and general reference books.
Vertical Files-(information file)
Collection of clippings from newspapers and
magazines, pamphlets on current information. (i.e.) Euthanasia, Terrorism.
MicroCat
All the materials in the library are catalogued
except the magazines- they are indexed. To search for materials using the
computer card catalogue, use the computers in any of the labs or in the library.
A search using microcat can be done using any networked computer in the school
by clicking on "EVERYONE" in the USERNET screen. To use the computers in
the library to do a search use the ID and the password taped to the computer you
are using. The search screen will then appear. You can search by
subject (topic), author, or title. Be sure to hit view and expand and

Current Periodicals-(magazines)
These are to be used in the library. List
of current subscriptions may change, please check with librarian if you need
assistance.
Periodicals (back issues)-
These are past issues of magazines. To find
an article, refer to the three periodical indexes located on a cart in the
reference area. They are: Atlantic Periodical Index
(1980-present), Abridged Reader's Guide (1977-present), National Geographic
Index (1965-present).
Newspapers-
Dailies- The Guardian, The Toronto Globe and
Mail
Today's issues are found on the circulation desk,
previous issues are found on the wire newspaper rack next to the encyclopedias.
Others- The Hockey News (bi-monthly),
Fish Farming, Farm Focus, The Atlantic Co-Operator.
French Collection-
A collection of materials written in French.

The two stand alone computers in the library can
