Welcome to Music Class!
Bienvenue à la classe de musique!
Sherwood School has a very active music program. Students in grades 1-3 attend music class for 90 minutes per cycle. While the grade 4-6 students receive 60 minutes of instruction per cycle.
In music class, students participate in musical activities through experiences in creating, listening, and performing. They develop musical understanding and appreciation through their experiences in understanding musical concepts and experiences in valuing the contribution of musicians in the past and present in various cultures.
Extra-curricular musical activities are offered throughout the school year.
Choir is held on Days 2, 4, and 6 (12:00-12:30) and is offered to all students in grades 4, 5, and 6.
Recorder instruction is offered to grade 6 students and is held on Days 3 and 5 (10:20-10:40).
All students at Sherwood School perform in at least on musical performance per year. Annual performances include Thanksgiving Assembly (grade 3), Remembrance Day Assembly (grade 4), Christmas Concerts (alternates between grade 1 and 2 and grade 5 and 6). Each of these grade levels perform their own individual concert.
Two concerts are held in the spring as well (alternates between grade 1 and 2 and grade 5 and 6).
Also, each year one grade level (approx. 100 students) performs a musical at the Eastern School District Drama Festival.
The final concert of the school year is held in May. This musical presentation involves the school choir as well as all of the students in grades 4, 5, and 6 who are involved in the strings program.
