Welcome to Resource!

Bienvenue aux resources!

At Sherwood Elementary School, there are two full-time resource English teachers serving approximately 500 students and a .4 resource French Immersion teacher serving approximately 150 students.

The role of the resource teacher in Sherwood School is multi-faceted.  One aspect of the role is diagnostic.  A resource teacher assesses the performance of individual students in order to identify strengths and weaknesses for purposes of remediation and support.  Assessments are completed throughout the year as needed.

Resource teachers work with classroom teachers and other staff in adjusting and modifying programs for student who are having significant difficulties with grade level programs.  This may include helping to locate supplementary materials and programs for use in the classroom or for use by tutors or parents at home.  It also includes support for tutors who give long or short term aid to individual students at each grade level.

IEP's and the school profile are developed by resource teachers in cooperation with the classroom teacher and the school students services team.

Reading Recovery is offered at the Grade One level for students in the English and French programs.  Resource at Grade 1-2 is generally strategy based and works on sounds in context.  At the upper levels, a variety of resource strategies are offered including Chisanbop Math, Lindamood (LiPS), and Phone-Graphix.  The latter two are especially helpful for students with auditory processing problems.

Resource in French Immersion is available in Grades 1-3.  This program is strategy based and works on sound in context, while also reinforcing vocabulary building.
