Click on the Presentation menu
There are dozens of backgrounds called Themes
Try one by clicking on it
If you like it, click the Activate button which appears on the top right

Widgets are applications which go in the Sidebar on your website
Pages, Links, and the Calendar have been chosen for you already

Just drag a box up into the Sidebar
