Envy
Envy is an emotion you feel when you want something someone else has, or when something good
happens to someone you know, like your best friend, sister or brother. You wish that the good
had happened to you. Instead of feeling happy for that person, you may be angry or upset with
her or him.

It can be hard to be genuinely happy for someone else's good fortunewhen you want it too, but
you can learn how to deal with feelings of jealousy and turn them around. You can start by
focussing on good things that happened to you; that way you can spend less time feeling angry
and upset, and more time feeling happy.
There are different kinds of envy; you may be jealous of a
friend's good fortune; you might feel envious someone else is getting attention you want from a
particular person; you may be jealous of something your friend or classmate can do better than
you, or you might be envious of your sister or brother. Children in a family often want something
at the same time; it could be the last slice of pie, or a chance to watch a favorite TV show.
The winner is envied by the rest of the children.
