Dear Parents and Guardians,
Grade 5 is a ton of fun and very interesting!
One of my goals is to provide a safe, engaging, and stimulating classroom atmosphere. If you ever have any questions about school, your child's progress, or if you'd like to volunteer for class or team activities, please contact me. I look forward to working with you and your child.
Communication
I can't stress communication enough. Here are some of the tools we have to communicate.
Email: One of the best ways to communicate with me is via email. I try to check my email every day. My email address is mbmitchell@edu.pe.ca. I send out emails periodically to any parent who would like updates on homework, assignments, quizzes, and projects. Click here to be added to the notification email list.
Agenda: Students write in their agenda every day in my class. They write the topics or assignments for the day and the homework. I check their agenda every day. If you look at your child's agenda and there's nothing written in it, it's because they have not been bringing it to class. The Classroom Procedure for the agenda is:
"Students are expected to use their agendas for the entire year. The agenda helps you learn time management skills, remember quizzes, assignments and appointments such as practices, tryouts, doctor and dentist visits, birthdays, etc. Use your agenda in school and at home to get organized and manage your time."
- Use the agenda to check on what's going on in class.
- Write me a note if you need information or to inform me of things. I will write a note back to you in the agenda or email/call you.
Phone Calls: Call me at school (902-962-7400) and if I'm teaching, leave me a message with the school secretary. If it is urgent, please ask her to call me to the phone.
Website: I update the website on the weekends and sometimes during the week. The website is good for checking on schedules, projects and assignments, and also has resources for studying.
Study Skills
Most grade 5 students need to develop solid study skills. Good study habits will pay off as subjects become more challenging in the 5th grade and later on. The student agenda has some excellent tips for studying. In addition, there are many websites with study skill information, such as:
