Gerald Lannigan

Interviewed by his neice, Cathleen Bedell

Gerald Lannigan fought in World War 2 and was overseas in Europe, from Ireland to Gibraltar, for 6 and a half years, from 1939 to 1945. Gerald volunteered to go to World War 2 and fight against the Nazi Germans; he says he was glad to help out. Gerald trained for the war from the time he was a little kid until the war. The transportation overseas was by ship or what they call frigates.

Gerald’s position in the war was able seaman; the name of his group was LA HULLOISE. Gerald made many friends during the war. His group destroyed 17 German ships. Gerald was injured when his finger was caught in a 4 inch gun.

Gerald is in his 70s today. Now that the war is over, Gerald is healthy, happily married to Myrtle with grown children, and having a great life. Gerald and his wife Myrtle live in Montague on Queen’s Road.
