Arts Smarts
Spring Park School has been awarded an Artsmarts grant of $3,320.00 to create the third and final section of out stained glass window trilogy. Whereas our first window represented students’ growth at home, at school and in the community, and our record window consisted of symbols of important parts of students’ lives, our third window will be an abstract work about values. It will be entitled “Spirit of Community” and it will be placed beside the exterior doors at the gym entrance of the school. All grade four to six classes will participate. Once again, Everett Johnston will be our stained-glass artist and Connie MacKay-Carr will be the project coordinator. We are looking forward to an exciting learning experience.

2005-06

Under the direction of Connie MacKay-Carr the school has completed a beautiful creation of a stained-glass window which has been placed at the front entrance of the school.

First of all, Ms Debbie Thomson and Mr. Everett Johnston, stained-glass artists, presented the project entitled Change through the Seasons to every class in the school. Homeroom teachers guided their students through a lesson in design. Each student designed an element for the project. The artists selected many of these elements and put them together to create the overall design.

The artists demonstrated how to cut the pieces of glass and children had an opportunity to cut and wrap a piece of glass with copper. Once every piece was wrapped, the artists soldered the pieces of glass together and a magnificent piece of art was made. Spring Park Elementary completed the project in April of 2005.

Sous la direction de Mde Mackay-Carr, l'école Spring Park a parcouru quelques étapes qui vont aboutir à la pose d'un vitrail près de l'entrée du gymnase de notre école.

Au début de janvier, l'équipe des enseignants a présenté le projet aux enfants de l'école. Le projet, intitulé Le changement à travers les saisons, a reçu l'appui enthousiaste des enfants et du personnel de l'école. Les enseignants ont donné une leçon rapide aux enfants afin de leur faire comprendre comment on peut concevoir un projet de ce type. Les enfants ont, par la suite, soumis leurs beaux dessins. 

Les deux artisans , Mde D. Thomson et M. E. Johnston ont d'abord expliqué le projet à chacune des classes puis ont fait le tri et choisi les dessins les plus appropriés.  Ensuite, ils se sont mis à concevoir le vitrail sur papier. Depuis, ils ont fait la coupe du verre et l'assemblage partiel de ce que va devenir le vitrail. Ils ont invité les enfants de l'école à des séances de démonstration de coupe  et de polissage de verre .
