Starting Monday, November 24th, 2008, a Dental Public Health Team will be at St. Jean Elementary to provide preventive dental services. The object of this clinic will provide oral health education and preventive dental services to help reduce or prevent dental decay. In the first couple of days of the clinic, all children will be seen to determine their risk of dental decay. This is a 2 minute screening check. If you do not wish your children to have this dental screening, please advise the school Administrative Assistant or classroom teacher. Preventive services including oral health education, cleaning and fluorides, and sealants will then be provided according to each child’s individual needs. It will be necessary for you to sign and return a consent form in order to obtain these services. This form will be distributed to the students once the screenings are complete. There is no cost involved with this clinic and parents are encouraged to drop in to the school to discuss preventive dental care for their children. Please note only preventive service will be provided, and the screening is not a dental examination. It is strongly recommended that parents take their children to a dentist for regular examinations and treatment, in addition to the preventive services provided

I would like to welcome Ms. Wendy Evers to St. Jean School. Ms. Evers is doing her student teaching with me. Wendy is a professional musician who plays in the P.E.I. Symphony and has been teaching privately for a number of years. I enjoy having her in the classroom because it allows me to do more activities . The students are also gaining a great experience and we are having lots of fun. The recorders have arrived so we will be starting a recorder program soon with the grade 5 & 6 class. The students are very anxious to get started. On Friday, November 7th our choir will perform at the Remembrance Day Assembly in the gymnasium. The choir has been working very hard to prepare for this event.
On Wednesday, Oct. 29 the grade 6 students of St. Jean were involved in helping launch the Healthy Eating Alliance's web site. This site is filled with teacher and parent resources, information about nutritious snacks, games and recipes.

The 2008 Charlottetown Christmas Parade is taking place on Saturday, November 29th at 5:00 pm. This is the 10th Anniversary for the parade. The parade committee is pleased to announce that the Parade is once again an evening parade with excited children, seasonal music, and sparkling lights combined with decorated streets and storefronts!
Kick Start you Day with Breakfast: Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Kids need a good breakfast to help them concentrate and to make the most of their learning experiences in school. Breakfast prepares you body for the rest of the day. Food is your body’s fuel and it needs a full tank to make it through the day! Try to include 3 of the 4 food groups at breakfast. Including foods such as whole grain breads, milk, cheese, eggs, fruit, oatmeal, and whole grain cereals at breakfast will keep stomachs full until break time. The number one reason people skip breakfast is because they do not have time to eat. Plan breakfast the night before and get out some of the products you will need to help speed up the process. Some people skip breakfast because they are not hungry. In this case try tempting them with a healthy breakfast bar or homemade breakfast muffin and a glass of 100% juice or milk.
Grade 4-6 students of St. Jean will be going to the Confederation Centre to see Canada Rocks Christmas Show.
