Simile

Students wrote poems where they incorporated the use of a simile. A simile is a comparison using the words "like" or "as". Examples of similes would be "The paint was green like grass" and "The cat was fierce as a tiger".  Using those examples, try and create your very own simile.  When you are done, click on one of the links below to view a poem one of our students created and see what simile they created.

On the road or use a plane.
Myself and my family.
Everybody will be nice like a normal family.

Ghost are scary as a haunted house. 
Haunted houses are scary as demons.
Oatmeal is scary as ghouls.
Slimy phantoms are scary as purple knights.
Tea is scary as a Harry Frankenstein.

The Moon and the Sun

The moon is like a sun.
The sun is like a moon.
The sun is like a star.
The star is like a moon.
The star is like a planet.
The planet is like you.
sweet as you can be 
After you eat a lovely sweet!

Run

The girl who ran, ran like the wind. When she ran through the forest as fast as she could.   She went over a cat, through the garden, and into the mall. Now she was as lazy as a cat! She will come home to rest until another good day for running.

Friends are like family.

A good friend can’t get as mad as a parent can.

 Look at my shoes,                                                                                                                        OOOOHH look at my shoes.                                                                                                            They're really really fine.
Look at my shoes.
and they are mine.
Oooooooooo they have the number 9.
Oooooooooo they are mine.
Oooooooooo my shoes are like pillows.
Ooooooooooooooooooooooo look at my shoes!!!
Ooooooooooooooooooooo my shoes smell like Pickles!!!!!!!!!!    
 I really really like them yah!  They are purple.

Trees are as beautiful as buzzing bees.

Earwigs are like bees; they infest trees.
