Susan Hughes

The Hackmatack Book Club and Mrs. Hickey's grade 5/4 class went to the Confederation Centre Children's Library to hear Susan Hughes. Susan is the author of Canada Invents, a book nominated for the Hackmatack Children's Choice Award for Nonfiction.

This is Susan Hughes. She is the author of many fiction and nonfiction books. She lives in Toronto with her husband and three children.
She showed us examples of books she had written and explained to us how she researched them. The book she is showing us is about a prehistoric shark.
Susan Hughes and her daughter showed us how a book is designed before it goes to print. We didn't realize how many steps there are to publishing a book.
This nonfiction book she is working on is about the building of the railway.
She autographed St. Jean's copy of the book Canada Invents. Its a great book about things that were invented by Canadians.

Did you know that a Canadian man invented Basketball?

We were a very interested group of future writers!
We thanked Susan by giving her a pen from our school.

We learned a lot and we really enjoyed ourselves!
