Notes from October, 2008 meeting:
Norman Beck welcomed the
parents, a new record for attendance. He
gave his report on enrolment numbers, school development goals, school
purchases and requests, his activities, and general school activities. In response to Mr
Beck’s report, it was questioned where the money from the magazine campaign
goes and suggested that we publicize this, as well as where student fees are
spent.
Co‑chair’s report: 2
projects have been suggested for H&S activities. Some war memorabilia was
donated to the school and we would like to create a display. A parent has made
a request to purchase educational aids such as voice‑activated
software. A great list of volunteers was
collected from Meet the teacher night.
There was some discussion about what new projects and initiatives can we
do that will utilize all of these volunteers.
The consensus was to have bake sales or a canteen at first social
night. All parents are encouraged to
visit the provincial Home & School site and participate in a survey. As well, all are invited to the provincial
semi‑annual meeting on Wed 15 October at
One question
was received from the floor regarding the requirement for typing assignments,
specifically where students learn how to type, and whether this is a reasonable
requirement. The meeting was adjourned
at 8:20.
The goal of
Home & School is to encourage our parents to participate in various school
activities.
There are
many ways in which parents can make a difference. Invest some time with our
teenagers and reap the benefits. If you have talents to share and are you
willing to volunteer your time, please contact your child's teacher or the main
office at 368-6085.
The PEI Home and School Federation
has a new website with resources and information for parents.
When one person speaks alone, it’s an
opinion.
When 10 of us speak together, it’s a
concern.
When 50 of us speak together, it’s a
strong suggestion.
When 200 of us speak together, it’s a
movement.
But when the 5000 families and 100 group
affiliates speak together, it’s a victory for children!
