School Policies

Fire Drill

The principal conducts a minimum of 3 drills in each school year (at least 2 during the first two months of school). Fire drills shall be held at irregular intervals without prior notice (except for the first drill of the year where students familiarize themselves with routes and exits).

Fire Drill Rules

At the sound of the continuous ringing of the bell:

1. All pupils will stand by their desks without talking. The monitors will perform

their assigned tasks (students are not to attempt to put books, etc. away).

2. Upon direction from the teacher students walk rapidly (no running, shoving,

talking) to the designed exits.

3. The pupils will proceed silently to the front of the school area, far enough away for safety and so everyone has a chance to exit.

4. Teachers will take the roll call and students will answer quickly and clearly.

5. At a given signal from the principal/teacher the students return to their

classrooms.

Non-Smoking Policy

The School Board has passed a non-smoking policy for the schools, buses, vans, etc.

To implement this policy people are put on an honor system to respect the Board’s efforts to provide a smoke-free environment for the school children.

Administration of Medication

The Eastern School District has a policy on the provision of medical and physical assistance for students by the staff in the schools. Request forms are available at the school for parents who wish to have such assistance for their child. Parents and physician must complete the appropriate sections of the form BEFORE the school can act on the request.

A Minister’s Directive also applies to the procedures for dealing with students who have life-threatening allergies. When parents advise the school that a child has a life-threatening allergy, the principal is responsible for coordinating the preparation of an Extreme Allergy Management and Prevention Plan for the student.
