Transport

 
Explain the importance of transport in simple and complex organisms.

Describe the transport system and be able to label diagrams of the following organisms: ameba,paramecia, hydra, earthworm, and grasshopper.

What are the 3 parts of a circulatory system?

Why do more complex organisms require a circulatory system?

Compare and contrast open and closed circulatory systems.

Know the flow of blood in an earthworm and a grasshopper.

Compare and contrast the structures of the 3 types of blood vessels: arteries, veins, and capillaries.

Trace the path of blood through the human heart.

Know the structure of the human heart and be able to label a diagram.

Know the heartbeat cycle and what is happening in the heart and lungs during a single heartbeat.

Explain how the heartbeat is controlled.

What does blood pressure measure and how is it measured?

How can you prevent heart disease?

What happens when a person suffers from atherosclerosis?

Know what happens to blood pressure as it flows through the body.

Describe the flow of blood in pulmonary and systemic circulation.

Describe the flow of blood in the 3 special types of systemic circulation: coronary, renal, hepatic-portal.

Know the lymphatic system and how it relates to the circulatory system.

Be aware of medical conditions discussed concerning the circulatory system.
