Social Studies Sites
The following social studies links were submitted by computer mentors and tech support people in Charlottetown from Feb-May 2001..
I came across some great websites for students doing work on Acadian
history. They are in French and English which makes them great for French
Immersion. Here they are.
The Acadian Odyssey

Acadian Quiz

The collections site is also just jammed full of social studies
material. They are at:

The Southern Kings web page has a lot of great things on it
that you might be able to use in your schools. There are numerous great
search engines here. I hope this is useful!

Career Exploration Sites
Try out these sites...they are both excellent
www.monster.ca
www.mazemaster.com/
Here are a couple of sites from a workshop I took part in recently.
-Try their "Match Me" feature, but be ready
to spend some time on this!
www.careerexperience.com/
-This site contains descriptions of occupations from real people;
what they do each day, what they like and dislike about their job, and
the challenges they face. Some of these career descriptions are hard to
find anywhere else.
Geography Site
www.atlas.gc.ca/english/carto/index.html
Have a look here. Select, The People, then Labor Unemployment
etc.

Hope these are useful to someone.

www.lonelyplanet.com/dest/dest.htm
A great web site for stats on all countries
www.altapedia.com
This is a site based on the New York times...it's really easy
to use. Basically, all you have to do is type in your subject - and it
provide you with a selection of activities to do. They focus on
grades 6-12.
www.nytimes.com/learning/teachers/lessons/archive.html
This is a site sent in by Guy Albert. The company describes
their site as: "a brand new, world class, comprehensive, kid safe
information database dedicated to knowledge and learning. Presently, we
offer the story of Canada.
Eventually, we will offer the story of the world. In the meantime, you
will find us very interesting."
www.globalseek.net/
Thought I'd pass this on. Its a great site all about Canada
and it has quizzes and maps to print out and the jigsaw puzzle are lots
of fun! Its called Teaching and Learning about Canada.

Web Quests on War
Check under the Social Studies heading on the following
site: You can choose the age appropriate section and there should
be plenty of different ones there. I've seen a few ranging from the "Great
War" to "Vietnam". Have fun.
