A bus driver's job is very important and his/her primary concern is to drive safely. It is not fair to him/her to be distracted from this very important task by IMPROPER BEHAVIOUR OF THE PASSENGERS.
While on the buses we expect student behaviour to be up to acceptable standards. Pushing and shoving, throwing things, foul language or disrespect to the driver are types of behaviour that CANNOT BE PERMITTED to occur.
Bussing to and from school is a PRIVILEGE granted by the School Board. Should a student abuse this privilege, we will be forced to withdraw the bussing privileges granted to that student.
We sincerely hope that all bus trips will conclude safely and without incidents of the nature of those mentioned above.
Bus drivers will be asked to fill out misconduct forms for PERSISTENT MISBEHAVIOUR. A copy of this form and a letter from the principal will be sent to the parents. A SECOND MISCONDUCT form will result in a SUSPENSION of bus privileges for a time (to be determined by the Principal and bus driver).
At times, your child may be disturbed by other children without the driver being aware of any problem. Keep in mind that we are unable to work towards improving the situation unless we are made aware of the problems. The best procedure is to first contact the bus driver in order to keep them aware of any potential situations, and then should further follow up be required, contact the Mr. Wood or Mrs. MacDonald at the school. We would very much appreciate your co-operation in this matter.
The school district is presently using a video surveillance system in some of the busses, and this system may be in use in any or all of our busses at some time throughout the year.
Drivers will be instructed to have "zero tolerance" with any behavior that will jeopardize the safety of their passengers.
On several occasions, students have gotten off the bus and run back across the road to get the mail. Please remind your child that drivers are not expecting a student to run back as a bus is pulling away. If the mail is their responsibility, it is suggested that the students get it at some other time than when getting dropped off the bus. Let's use preventative measures to avoid a tragedy.
