The purpose of our School Library Program will be to assist individuals to become "life-long learners", confident in their ability to access and personalize information and express ideas creatively. Our teacher-librarian(s) is/are dedicated to assisting teachers in extending and enhancing their curriculum.
Here at Vernon River Consolidated School, we have a library skills program taught by Natalie Bulger and Joanne MacIsaac. These resource-based activities, completed in each grade, incorporate grade-level skills outlined in the Provincial Information Skills Continuum which was developed by the Library Curriculum Committee, Department of Education.
Our school library is now circulating books using the MicroCat software program. This library automation package has replaced the card catalogue. It automates various library functions such as searching the catalogue, checking library material in and out, inventory control, overdue books, and other library operations.
