2009 Science Fair at West Kent
This year's Science Fair was a huge success! On Thursday, Feb. 25 approximately 40 junior scientists from grades 4, 5 and 6 met in the gym. There was a wide variety of topics represented, ranging from the hows and whys of popping popcorn to the behaviour of bats, to the anatomy of the tongue and many points in between. Physics, chemistry, biology, and psychology: they all were there. All of the participants had colourful and creative displays showing their background research, ideas and results. Students spoke confidently and professionally to the judges. I know that I learned a few new things.
Our students are to be commended for their hard work on these projects. Thanks goes out to all the parents who supported our students as well.
There were three Honourable Mentions chosen:
Tillie and Jack - Coke Geysers
Liam and Ryan - Popping Popcorn, and
Jenny and Mickayla - Soil Erosion
Six projects were chosen to continue on to the District 3 fair:
Grace - Batty for Echolocation
Graeme - The Power Saving Computer
Sam and Clancy - Ship Shape
Julianna and Allyson - Global Warming
Jenny and Sarah - Taste, and
Samuel and Jack - Space Hunters
All six projects which represented us at the Eastern School District Science Fair have been chosen to compete at the Provincial Science Fair, April 2nd at UPEI!
Congratulations and Good Luck we are proud of your accomplishments!!
